Cider in San Jose

One of my new favorite spots just outside of downtown San Jose is Cider Junction. This is a cider lover’s paradise. As a celiac, I particularly appreciate the variety of dry cider and several gluten free menu items. This is not a fruity little cocktail place, there’s something for everyone here – whether you prefer a more beer-like cider, something fruity, or something very unusual.

I first discovered this spot at the end of last year and had my entire crew meet me for birthday drinks. Just a short drove from downtown San Jose, this place is a surprising find in a strip mall just two blocks from downtown Willow Glen.

The bar is friendly, casual and has a ton of cool games for patrons. The cider rotates and offers a wide array of traditional dry ciders, sparkling ciders and new varieties. Tuesday is “Flight Night” at the Junction, so you can snag a tasting board of four ciders (four ounce pours) for just $10 if you take the special selection of the day (regular price is $12 for other flights/nights).

A few notes on choices – 101 Cider House some WEIRD ciders. Except these to be low on effervescents, high on unusual flavors and tartness. For those preferring more traditional flavors, you will likely want to avoid this brand. The Hemly Jalapeno Pear is one of the most surprisingly delicious ciders I’ve tried, though I generally prefer traditional English style dry or French style sparkling ciders.
